Letter from Dr. Grace Lewis
Hello and welcome to Saving Grace Animal Medical Center! My name is Dr Grace A Lewis, owner of SGAMC. I graduated form Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. I have been married for 15 years and have 3 amazing kiddos, 5 cats, 1 dog, 1 fish and 14 backyard laying hens. I am so excited, honored and humbled that my respected colleague Dr Jen has asked me to be available for your pet’s medical needs. Words cannot express what a huge blessing this is for my practice and I am so very grateful to Dr Jen for trusting me with her patients. I hope you will take the time to read this so you can get to know me a bit more.
I have enjoyed a rewarding career over the last 23 years working for various day practices and emergency practices in the Houston and Austin areas while raising my wonderful family. Working in these practices has given me a unique perspective in that I can accommodate almost any patient type, temperament, or condition. If I had to sum up my practice philosophy in one word, it would be flexible. I strive to provide you the most current, scientifically backed information along with the tools to keep your pet as healthy as possible. I never force a treatment plan on any client; rather, I give all available options as well as support in the decision making process.
I founded Saving Grace Animal Medical Center to provide a different type of veterinary experience, specifically one that reduces the fear, stress and anxiety that pets and their families often experience in the brick and mortar setting. Saving Grace is a full service mobile operation that offers everything that a stationary practice does, other than hospitalization and grooming. We provide wellness care, diagnostics and treatment for illness and injuries, behavior consultations, skin and allergy issues, along with acupuncture and laser therapy. We offer a full onsite pharmacy and have two online pharmacies for those items not available during your visit. The website, www.savinggracemobilevet.com, is loaded with information; please visit it to see the many available services. In addition, it features testimonials from various clients, as well as many 5 star google reviews that can also help you to learn a bit more about those who have been satisfied with my service. You can also visit our Facebook page, Saving Grace Animal Medical Center. Reviewing other people’s perspectives is a valuable way to not only understand my practice philosophy, but how that translates into the overall experience. We don’t just want to meet our clients’ expectations, we want to exceed them.
If you would like us to participate in your pet’s health care and need an appointment, please go to the patient portal on the top left submit a New Client Form- just one time. Once that is received we will be in touch as soon as possible. Under referral please add Dr Jen’s patient, or simply Dr. Jen if you are a new client, so that I know how you heard about us! For subsequent appointment needs you may call, leave a message, text or fill out an appointment request form also on the website under the patient portal tab.
The global pandemic caused by Covid-19 has mandated vigilance on our part to protect our clients, and us, as well. My youngest son is very high risk: he was born with Down syndrome and a congenital heart and lung defect; my elderly mother is high risk, as well. Like many brick and mortar practices, at this time we cannot accomodate clients inside the truck. We have also temporarily suspended entering client homes. In your presence outside, we do as much as possible for the dogs, then escort the pet into our roomy truck for weight check and sample collection. I am a certified Fear Free practitioner; thus be assured we always use the gentlest of touch when dealing with pets. We want this to be a great experience for them. For euthanasias, we are doing as many possible outside in the yard or on the patio, weather permitting. We are dedicated to evaluating these on a case by case basis, and endeavor to accommodate everyone’s needs during this sorrowful time.
I have a passion for senior pets and the challenges that come with the multiple problems they face. I have an array of options available to formulate a specific plan for each individual pet's pain management to maximize quality of life.
I also have a special interest in feline medicine. Cats can have very unique health challenges; I enjoy working up feline cases, even in those with challenging temperaments. They represent a severely underserved population due to the stress surrounding their transport to clinics. We diffuse calming maternal pheromones in the truck prior to our feline appointments, as well as infusing our towels with it so that we can provide that extra layer of relaxation while they are in our care.
The following is a google review that one of my client’s recently posted:
“Dr Grace has transformed the health of our dog and indeed our entire approach to our pet’s healthcare. We have four dogs, all special needs. Not only does this mean that getting them into a traditional veterinary hospital is challenging, but it also means that their health problems are unique, varied, and multi-faceted. Candidly I have grown used to a simple band-aid approach from most vets. Dr Grace’s initial appeal was convenience, but it has now gone well beyond that. She is proactive, mindful, creative in finding healthcare solutions for our dogs. Also she’s deeply loving towards them . For the first time, I feel like our vet actually cares about our animals on a fundamental level. I could not recommend her more strongly.”
